Delete your account
Last updated 18 October 2026
You can delete your Chukta account whenever you like, yourself in the app or by sending us an email. You don’t need to install anything. This page explains how, and exactly what happens to your data.
Delete it in the app
This works the same in the Android app and in the web app at app.getchukta.in (on any phone or computer).
- Sign in to Chukta and open the Profile tab.
- At the bottom, below Sign out, tap Delete account.
- Read what will happen. If you still have open balances with anyone, we show them, so you can settle up first if you want to. You don’t have to.
- Tap Delete my account, then Yes, delete my account.
Your account is deleted straight away and you’re signed out. You need to be online for this. It can’t be undone, so if you’d like a copy of your expenses first, use Profile → Export all my data (CSV or PDF).
Ask us to delete it, without the app
Email [email protected] from the email address you sign in to Chukta with, with the subject “Delete my Chukta account”.
Email us to delete my account Open web app
If the email comes from a different address, or we can’t match it to an account, we may ask you to confirm that the account is yours before we delete anything. We’ll reply within 30 days. We delete it in exactly the same way the app does, so everything below applies.
What is deleted
- Your name, email address, UPI ID and profile photo. Wherever you still appear, you’re shown as “Deleted user”.
- Your sign-in: the link to your Google account or your email sign-in is removed, so nobody can sign in to your account again.
- Your group memberships: you leave every group. If you were a group’s only admin, another member becomes admin.
- Groups that only had you in them, with their expenses. (If a group’s other members had already left but still appear in its expenses, it’s archived for them instead.)
- Your recurring bills, and one-to-one recurring bills with you. Expenses they already added stay, like any other expense.
- Your Friends list, the phone numbers and emails you saved for people, and any contact details other people saved about you.
- Friends you added who aren’t on Chukta and aren’t in a group or a shared expense with anyone else, together with the one-to-one expenses that were only between you and them.
- Your photos: your profile photo, photos of friends and groups that are deleted with your account, and the files behind them.
- Your pay-me links. Payments already recorded through them stay, like any expense.
- Payment reminders you sent or received.
- Categories you made for yourself. Expenses that used them move to General.
- Your Splitwise imports (the import records and the link between your Splitwise and Chukta accounts).
- The phones and browsers registered for your notifications, and any notifications or emails still waiting to be sent to you.
What stays, and why
Expenses you share are also part of your friends’ records. If they vanished, everyone else’s balances would suddenly be wrong. So:
- Expenses and payments you shared with other people stay for them, with their amounts and who paid and who owes, so their balances stay correct. You appear in them as “Deleted user”. Their descriptions, notes, receipt photos and item lists stay with them too.
- Comments you wrote, and the activity history of those expenses, show “Deleted user”.
- Groups other people are still in stay for them.
- Your account’s record is kept only as “Deleted user”, without your name, email, UPI ID, photo or sign-in, so those shared expenses still add up.
- Deleted expenses wait in the bin for 30 days (so they can be undone), then they’re permanently removed, with their comments and receipt photos.
- Crash reports, if they were turned on, are deleted by Sentry within 90 days.
Signing in again later with the same Google account or email starts a new, empty account. Your old expenses aren’t reconnected to it.
Delete only some of your data
You can also remove things one by one and keep your account:
- An expense or payment: open it, tap More (⋯), then Delete. It comes off everyone’s balances, waits in the bin for 30 days, then is removed for good.
- Your UPI ID: Profile → UPI ID, clear the box and tap Save.
- Your photo: in Profile, tap your photo, then Remove photo. A group’s photo, or the photo of a friend who isn’t on Chukta, can be removed from their page the same way.
- A friend: open their page and tap Remove friend.
- A recurring bill: open it and tap Delete this recurring bill.
- A pay-me link: Profile → Your pay-me link, then Turn this link off.
- A category you made: edit it in the category list and tap Delete category. Its expenses move to General.
For anything else, email us and we’ll help.
